I spent about 1 hour tonight on it working almost entirely on the dragon’s head. Depending how nitpicky I get with details, I could easily put another 4-5 hours into this.
I’m really happy with how it’s turned out but I feel like it’s missing something, that hard-to-pinpoint last “10%”. I tried playing with hue/sat a bit to see what bringing different colors into it would look like but I wasn’t really enjoying the result.
Finished it yesterday. I’m really proud of the lighting on this one. I’m trying to push myself further with colors and lighting this year and so far I’ve had good results. 🙂
This is a remake of this piece from 2005, which at the time was my very best work:
It would be fun to go back to those classes with all the knowledge and skills I’ve gained since!
Pulled the background architecture back in attempt to give the scene greater depth. Shrank the dragons because upon re-reading I discovered they’re not really that big yet.
I had to shelve this for the last 2+ weeks due to 12 hour days at the office. I had a little time this weekend to work on it, though. Yay!
She’s done!! Yay! I spent a lot of time on those dragons, and I hope it shows. My next order of business will probably be a 3D model or two. Most jobs I see advertised are for 3D positions, and I could certainly use more practice. Speaking of which, I haven’t heard back yet from most of the 8 or so places I’ve applied. I only wish I knew what it was – whether they are simply swamped, or whether I live too far, or whether my work is lacking in some way. In the meantime though, I’m having plenty of fun expanding my portfolio!
No reference, just a quick (3 hours) painting in Photoshop started and finished today. After a 30+ hour painting, 3 hours just flies by! This is Sansa Stark, a character from George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.
It’s done, hoorah! I spent a looonnng time on this and I hope it shows!
More progress! I took a look back on all the art I’ve made since beginning this blog, and wow, I’ve been busy! Lots more to come, too.
“Done” in the figurative sense, that is. Nothing’s really EVER done 😀 But I’m happy with her and I need to move on!
She’s not quite done, but she’s pretty far along now! There are some issues I need to iron out with her face geometry and her hands still, but I think she’s my favorite 3d model so far 🙂
