I basically only go home to sleep these days – Jim works late every night now and if he doesn’t think he’s going to be too insanely late, I stay late with him and work on a painting instead until Jim decides it’s time to go home and sleep.
This has turned out to be a pretty good arrangement for painting though! My home computer is a dying pile of slag and painting on through its slowness is becoming obnoxious. The most recent component to kick the bucket was the CD burner, which makes me really regret buying a bunch of music through iTunes, because now I can’t just transfer it to another computer and burn it from there. I don’t want the poison that is iTunes on any of my other machines. As they say: no good deed goes unpunished.
Anyway, this painting is turning out to be huge but I want to wrap it up soon because a lot of artists at work are starting an art collection based on A Song of Ice and Fire, and I’m eager to contribute something of my own to it. I’m still trying to decide which one of the billion awesome moments the books have should be my painting.
Last week’s sketch – refined! I thought I’d try pushing the sketch further than I usually do. I can only tolerate so much sketching prior to painting. I know it’s a good idea to go in with a firm sketch, but I LIKE experimenting in the paint and mushing things around, so I sometimes feel restricted by a good sketch. This is why I’d be a frustrated colorist. 🙂
